The Urology Group in 2019: Innovations, Services and Patient Care

December 19, 2019 | By: Earl Walz, CEO

Mahatma Gandhi once said that true wealth is found not in pieces of silver and gold, but in good health. We agree; the health of every one of our patients is worth its weight in gold.

Over the past year, The Urology Group has reinvested the benefits of that good health into the experiences we provide. In the past two years, we have added state-of-the-art technologies, time-saving services and exceptional physicians. We’ve been recognized for excellence in service and performed thousands of life-improving procedures, including nearly 1,800 CyberKnife® SBRT incision-free radiation treatments for prostate cancer.

Here are a few specific highlights we’ve achieved with and for our patients:

Technologies: Among the new tests and treatments we’ve added are the MicroGenDx two-part DNA scan, for diagnosing hard-to-detect UTIs; GreenLight™ Laser Therapy, an out-patient treatment for enlarged prostates that uses a laser to vaporize excess prostate tissue; and advanced genetic testing that detects a patient’s risk of developing prostate cancer as well as genomic testing to determine the likelihood of developing more aggressive forms of cancer.

Services: The Urology Group has opened an on-site pharmacy at our Norwood outpatient surgical center, so family members can pick up prescriptions while their loved ones are in recovery. This eliminates the stress of having to stop and wait for fulfillments at a separate pharmacy on the way home. Our pharmacy carries all the medicines we prescribe, including those not readily available at commercial pharmacies, such as certain prostate cancer medicines.

Recognition: Our practice has been designated a Center of Excellence by the National Association For Continence (NAFC). Incontinence, which affects more than 25 million Americans, can signal critical long-term health issues including an enlarged prostate, urinary tract infections and neurological disorders. The NAFC’s designation is based on training, clinical experience, facility resources and patient satisfaction.

Staff: In our quest for best-in-class talent, The Urology Group has recruited four more highly specialized physicians in the past two years, expanding our medical team to more than 40. Joining us in 2018 were Dr. Matthew Love and Dr. Brian Minnillo. Then, in 2019 Dr. Stephen Bennett and Dr. Katherine Voss joined us to further enrich The Urology Group’s expertise.

Community: Our 12th annual Gentlemen Stakes 5k for Prostate Cancer, benefitting ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer, returned to Belterra Park Cincinnati this past September. Nearly 900 runners and walkers participated in the annual event and helped us raise more than $100,000, which is now being used to reduce prostate cancer cases and deaths through prevention and early detection. Mark your calendar for next year’s race and be part of action on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at Belterra Park Cincinnati. Registration will open in early spring.

The Urology Group closes 2019 having achieved some of our greatest milestones and knowing it was possible with the help of our growing number of patients and associates. We thank you for your partnership and wish you a happy and healthy new year.
