Dr. Karl Braun Named Health Care Heroes Award Winner
Business Courier recognized The Urology Group physician for mission work, honoring veterans
CINCINNATI (Feb. 24, 2016) —Dr. Karl B. Braun of The Urology Group was awarded a 2017 Health Care Heroes award from The Cincinnati Business Courier. The award honors healthcare professionals who have improved the quality of healthcare in Greater Cincinnati through their medical expertise, innovative approaches, management skills and service to the poor and uninsured.
The award highlights Dr. Braun’s outstanding care for his patients, his ongoing mission work and his deep commitment to honoring U.S. veterans.
“I was caught off guard that what I thought was a simple gesture would resonate with so many people,” said Dr. Braun. “However, after receiving the award I recognize that the sacrifice our WWII vets made for this country are enduring and profound, obviously having an impact on others as it has on me. I am humbled by the honor.”
For the past several years, Dr. Braun has performed mission work in Chinandega, Nicaragua, in partnership with the Amigos for Christ organization. During the trips, Dr. Braun provides urological treatment at Hospital España, a 100-bed hospital striving to serve a population of approximately 350,000. In addition to surgical work, he serves the community by working with teams to improve the water and sanitation conditions, increase access to fundamental education and improve economic development.
Additionally, Dr. Braun was a driving force behind two veteran events sponsored by The Urology Group: a Pearl Harbor 75th anniversary luncheon held on Dec. 7, 2016, and a trip in 2015 to Washington, D.C. for four veterans to commemorate Victory in Europe (V-E) Day. Since The Urology Group has many patients who are also World War II veterans, Dr. Braun suggested his organization find ways to show gestures of respect and tribute to these men and women. The Pearl Harbor event brought together nearly 70 World War II veterans–one of the largest such gatherings in the nation.
Dr. Braun joined The Urology Group in 1997 and works in the Blue Ash and Anderson offices. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Large Urology Group Practice Association.
Other Finalists in the Provider category included: Judy Brandell, Mercy Health – Fairfield Hospital, Dr. Jeremy Carpenter, White Stone Psychiatric and Addiction Services, Sara Frazee, University of Cincinnati Medical Center – UC Health, Dr. Amit Govil, University of Cincinnati and UC Health, Dr. Mina Kalfas, Christ Hospital Health Network.
