Cops to engage youth in flag football game this Saturday
COVINGTON (August 06, 2015) – In an effort to improve upon the police- community relations, a host of local businesses have joined together to strengthen relationships between Covington youth and local police and fire enforcement.
A festival and flag football game between Covington’s youth and local police and fire enforcement will be held this Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the football field at Rosedale Park/Holy Cross (4599 Virginia Ave. Latonia, KY).
Festivities have been chiefly organized by Hair on the Floor Barbershop and are being supported by a host of local businesses. Top sponsors include The Urology Group, the Athletic Department at Northern Kentucky University and the Covington Police and Fire Departments.
Covington police and fire fighters will play a flag football game with kids ages 8-15. About 50-60 kids and adults are expected to participate in the football competition, with kickoff at 5:45 p.m. The game will coincide with a family festival to include food, games, activities and a meet-and-greet with local police officers and firefighters.
The idea for the event originated with Hair on the Floor Barbershop owner Reginald England, is a true role model who turned his life around after a prison term. In addition to serving as a mentor, Reginald’s Covington barbershop is a safe haven for kids, to whom he provides shoes as a reward for good grades.
