CINCINNATI (Sept. 3, 2019) — Nearly 1,000 runners will be in place when the starting bell rings Sept. 14 at Belterra Park Cincinnati for the Gentlemen Stakes For Prostate Cancer 5K Run/Walk. The charity race benefits ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer.
This marks the 12th year that The Urology Group has organized this annual event. It’s the second consecutive year that the host is Belterra Park Cincinnati, where the start line and finish line are on the historic dirt racetrack.
Proceeds will benefit ZERO, the leading national nonprofit with a mission to end prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men.
The one-of-a-kind Gentlemen Stakes 5K course will begin on the racetrack, pass through Belterra Park, wind through Coney Island, and end with a family-fun after-party. New to the event this year is a one-mile family fun run and a Kids Fun Zone. Race participants who register by September 11 will receive a $2 voucher to try their luck at Belterra Park betting windows.
And what would a human race/walk on a horse track be without horses? This year, an outrider pony, the kind of equine that serves as a pre-race escort for Belterra thoroughbreds, will be on hand to enhance the racing atmosphere.
“This event is fun for the whole family, but also competitive, and all for a noble cause,” said Earl Walz, CEO of The Urology Group. “The goal each year is to raise awareness of the importance of prostate cancer research, raise funds, and have a good time doing so,” he said.
“We believe Belterra Park is Cincinnati’s coolest venue for a 5K race/walk and this event is second to none when it comes to charity races,” said Chris Corrado, vice president and general manager of Belterra Park Cincinnati. “Providing fun and excitement, while also serving the virtuous cause of ending prostate cancer is like hitting the Daily Double.”
Runners and walkers can register online until 6 p.m. Sept. 11 by visiting www.UrologyGroup.com/gentlemen-stakes/. Registration also will be available beginning at 7 a.m. on race day. The 5K race/walk starts at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 14.
Abbvie is the premier sponsor of the Gentlemen Stakes event. Richard Wolf is the presenting sponsor. Mercedes Benz of Fort Mitchell and the Wyler Family Foundation sponsor the Winners’ Circle and Mercy Health Foundation co-sponsors the prostate cancer Survivors’ Breakfast with Abbvie.
Belterra Park Cincinnati is located off I-275 at 6301 Kellogg Road, just ten minutes from downtown Cincinnati. Belterra will provide free parking and racing infrastructure for the Gentlemen Stakes event, including the starting gate and grandstand seating for spectators.
