NEW INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY CENTER OFFERS REVOLUTIONARY BPH TREATMENT

Men who are patients of The Urology Group with an enlarged prostate (BPH) have a less invasive treatment option now available at the IR Center of Greater Cincinnati. Located in Norwood, the just-opened Center offers prostate artery embolization (PAE) to treat BPH, a common, non-cancerous condition that can block the flow of urine in men. Interventional radiology (IR) uses x-ray or other advanced imaging techniques to guide instruments during the PAE procedure. Benefits include:

  • Minimal risk of sexual side effects and incontinence compared to other procedures
  • Virtually painless
  • No need for general anesthesia (only twilight sleep is needed)
  • Fast recovery, home the same day
  • Convenient, easy in-and-out facility

The procedure is provided by interventional radiologists who are medical doctors with six or more years of additional training. Talk to your urologist to see if PAE at the IR Center of Greater Cincinnati is right for you.

MILESTONES PROVE CYBERKNIFE’S PRECISION TO TREAT CANCER

One of the most advanced treatment options for some cancers is the CyberKnife® stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). Available at The Urology Group since 2013 for prostate cancer patients, this incision-free, robotic procedure delivers high doses of radiation with extreme accuracy for fewer treatments.

Eleven years later, we’re happy to announce two CyberKnife milestones:

  1. We recently celebrated our 4,000th prostate cancer patient to be treated with CyberKnife.
  2. CyberKnife’s history of positive outcomes means it is now available to treat kidney cancer patients.

In July, Steve Rouff became the 4,000th patient to choose this non-invasive radiation treatment option to eradicate his prostate cancer after a PSA test showed alarmingly high results. A very active 57-year-old, Steve was shocked at the diagnosis. Like most men, he had no symptoms. Read Steve’s story.

NOT A STONES FAN?

Neither are we. Kidney stones can be extremely painful. That’s why we invest in the most advanced, immediate care available, including CVAC. This new vacuum device, introduced in spring 2024, fragments, irrigates, and removes kidney stones and dust in a single procedure.

Dr. Matthew Love was the first physician to use next generation CVAC in Ohio, and recently completed his 150th case. “This new device enables us to continuously clear stone dust through passive aspiration,” he explains. “It reliably removes all of the stone fragments and dust that can remain after lithotripsy, which enables better stone clearance for our patients.”

If you’re suffering from kidney stones, ask your urologist if CVAC may be right for you.
