How It Works
This IR procedure shuts down the enlarged veins and redirects blood flow to healthy veins.
- The interventional radiologist makes a tiny incision in your inner thigh, then uses x-ray to guide a catheter to the enlarged veins.
- A liquid contrast is injected to make the veins more visible.
- Coils or particles are inserted to block/shut down the enlarged veins.
- Blood flow is redirected to nearby healthy veins.

What to Expect
- Procedure time of 30-45 minutes
- Light sedation to make you relaxed and sleepy
- A shot of numbing medication in your inner thigh.
After Your Procedure
- Go home after a 2-hour recovery.
- Resume moderate activity after 1-2 days
- Avoid sexual activity for a few weeks
