The Urology Group Celebrates Ambulatory Surgery Center Week
More than 15,000 patients treated at urology-only center each year
CINCINNATI (Aug. 7, 2017) – The week of August 7 – 11 is National Ambulatory Surgery Center Week and The Urology Group is celebrating having handled more than 240,000 cases since it opened its surgery center in 1998.
The Urology Center, the urological outpatient surgery center at The Urology Group’s Norwood campus, handles more than 15,000 cases per year. Typical procedures performed in the surgery center include:
Kidney stone treatment, specifically lithotripsy and ureteroscopy
Prostate treatment, including brachytherapy and transurethral resection of the prostate
“I am incredibly proud of the forethought that The Urology Group displayed nearly 20 years ago in developing our ambulatory surgery center. It provides our patients with a more convenient alternative to hospital-based stays and transforms the outpatient experience,” said Dr. Brooke Edwards.
By operating in surgery centers instead of hospitals, physicians gain increased control over their surgical practices. In a surgical center setting, physicians and other medical staff can tailor the surgery experience more specifically to the needs of the patients. Surgical centers also provide physicians with more professional freedom over their work environment and the quality of care provided. A more patient-centric approach to care combined with more cost-effective care results in high patient satisfaction levels at a time when patients are at odds with most of America’s healthcare system.
