Dr. Malik Awarded Physician Citizen of the Year

Malik Awarded The Urology Group Physician Citizen of the Year Award 

CINCINNATI (November 3, 2017) — For his decades of work serving the Muslim community, Dr. Inayat K. Malik was presented with The Urology Group Physician Citizen of the Year award at an annual dinner held at Memorial Hall. Each year, the Group recognizes one of its members for philanthropy or public service.

Dr. Malik has been intimately involved with community outreach, interfaith cooperation and programs to meet the religious needs of a growing Muslim community since his arrival in Cincinnati in 1967. As president of The Islamic Association of Cincinnati, he oversaw the creation of The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, which opened in 1995, and later the building of a full-time pre-K through eighth grade private school on the Center premises. He served as president and board chair for the Center through 2013.

Outside of his work for the Center, he cofounded the Muslim Jewish Dialogue in 2003, which has since evolved into The Bridges of Faith Trialogue, for interfaith communication and cooperation on issues of religious freedom and social justice. He has served on several boards, including the National Conference for Community and Justice, American Red Cross, Brueggeman Center for Interfaith Dialogue, Cincinnati Health Improvement Collaborative and Greater Cincinnati World Affairs Council.

On the national level, he is a life member of the Islamic Medical Association and Islamic Society of North America where he serves on their Founders’ Committee. He is a member of the Pioneers Club of Unity Productions Foundation, supporting its work in producing documentaries about Muslim life, issues and history. He currently serves as a board member of National Religious Campaign Against Torture, a Washington, D.C.-based organization striving to outlaw torture as a national policy.

His ongoing efforts have been previously awarded by the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission, Bridges for a Just Community and The United Way.

Dr. Malik received his surgical training at Saint Alexis Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and his urology training at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He currently works in the The Urology Group’s Norwood office. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Large Urology Group Practice Association.
