The Pathology Lab: Supporting Patient Care Behind the Scenes

May 14, 2015

At The Urology Group, an important part of patient care happens in a place that patients rarely see: the pathology lab.

Physicians order biopsies, urinalyses or blood tests to confirm their observations or to learn more about a patient’s condition. The results allow physicians to more accurately assess the patient and determine the appropriate steps for treatment.

At The Urology Group, we have the only in-house lab in the Greater Cincinnati area dedicated to urologic and prosate tissue analysis and biopsies. The lab plays an important role in patient care – even though it’s typically behind the scenes.

As a patient, you can trust the performance of our lab, because we:

  • Hold accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, having passed an intense inspection that checks hundreds of items.
  • Review approximately 2,500 prostate biopsies each year – more than any other lab in the region – giving us a tremendous depth of experience and the ability to identify issues quickly.
  • Serve as the only provider in the region of FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) analysis, a sophisticated test that is key to addressing recurrent bladder cancer.

Most importantly, we provide fast, accurate results, which means patients and their families spend less time waiting anxiously for news. For physicians and staff, quicker test results mean they get a faster start on evaluating treatment options and determining the best course of action with patients.

The lab serves as a partner in the multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care, working with physicians, specialists, nurses and staff to create an optimal treatment plan.

We’re proud of our achievements to date, which position us as a healthcare leader with a growing national reputation. We remain committed to the highest standards in the industry, to provide the highest quality patient care.
